1. What is an IBCLC, and how can you help me?
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a healthcare professional trained to support families with breastfeeding, pumping, and lactation-related challenges. We provide personalized care to help you reach your feeding goals.
2. What is your service area?
We provide in-home consultations in the DMV area such as Washington DC, Upper Marlboro MD, Bowie MD, Silver Spring MD, Rockville MD, Bethesda MD, Alexandria VA, Arlington VA . If you’re outside this area, I also offer virtual consultations to support families wherever they are.
3. What should I prepare for a lactation consultation?
If possible, have your baby, a comfortable feeding spot, any feeding tools (pump, bottles, nipple shields, etc.), and your questions ready. For virtual sessions, ensure you have a device with a camera and stable internet connection.
4. What should I do if breastfeeding is painful?
Breastfeeding shouldn’t hurt. Pain may be a sign of latch issues, tongue/lip ties, or other concerns. We’ll work with you to identify the cause and make feedings more comfortable.
5. Can you help with pumping questions, like flange sizing or increasing output?
Yes! We can ensure you have the correct flange size, guide you in optimizing pump settings, and help develop a pumping routine to maximize milk output.
6. My baby won’t latch. What can I do?
Latching issues are common but solvable. We’ll assess why your baby is having trouble and provide hands-on support to improve their latch and feeding experience.
7. Do you help with returning to work and pumping schedules?
Absolutely! We’ll help you create a personalized pumping plan, including tips for milk storage, pump settings, and maintaining your supply while balancing work and home life.
8. How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?
Signs your baby is getting enough milk include regular wet and dirty diapers, steady weight gain, and contentment after feeding. We’ll help you assess and monitor these signs during our consultation.
9. Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes! Virtual consultations are a convenient option for families who prefer support from home. We’ll guide you through positioning, latch assessment, and any other concerns over a secure video platform.
10. When should I schedule a lactation consultation?
It’s never too early or late! You can book a consultation during pregnancy to prepare for breastfeeding or any time after birth to address challenges or set new goals.
11. What if breastfeeding doesn’t work out for me?
That’s okay! My goal is to support your feeding journey, whether that’s breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, or a combination. We’re here to help you find what works best for your family.
12. Will my insurance cover lactation consultations?
Many insurance plans cover lactation services. We’ll provide a superbill (detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement upon request. Please also reach out to your insurance provider with any coverage questions.
